To-Dos on this site

[meta ]

Even after I’ve managed to port my sites over to Blosxom and I was pleased enough with the result to launch it to the public, I still couldn’t really say that everything was up to par as far as what I wanted to do with this site.

This page presents a list of things I still need to work on and is my personal to-do list for the nunonunes.org site.

I fully expect that this list will never be over, but it’s nice to have a place to go over and see what I can work on next when the spare time comes…

So, here is the list:

  • Make the category plugin sensitive to the section it is at and only show the categories of that same section;
  • Make the category and archives plugins work on the “story” part of the respective pages instead of in the side menu;
  • Make the top menu aware of the section that a given article is on and display the appropriate item as “active”;
  • Get the RSS2 and ATOM feeds in place;
  • Finish up and publish the Haloscan plugin;
  • Finish up and publish the Technorati plugin (check the tags plugin for the features I need and write new one if necessary…);
  • Redesign the site’s layout with contextual menus on the left and flowing content on the right;
  • Create photolog section (make the weblog/photography section be it?);
  • Create a “Zeitgeist” page bringing toghether the services I use most around the web (latest Flickr pictures, latest del.icio.us bookmarks, latest songs and favourite artists from last.fm, etc) and link to it from the home page (or from the top menu?);
  • Implement full text search across the whole site;
  • Integrate the search engine with the site (in a clean way);
  • Implement “related pages” across the whole site;
  • Implement tag clusters (?);
  • Fix the RSS 2.0 feed generating plugin (“enclosures”) and make it behave appropriately with post dates that are not UTC (as is the case on my site!);
  • Implement simple authentication and authorization mechanism at the level of individual nodes (and possibly whole [sub-]sections);
  • Find all the broken image links (especially in the old weblog entries) and fix them, making them point over to the new images/photos place;
  • Check the weblog entries from 2002 (and early 2003) for formating —many will have become one huge string of text with all the conversions they already went through;
  • Install (and hack on) the lastmodified plugin with support for RSS feeds (see Heckers entry on the subject);
  • Import all the old-style comments (local to the Movabletype instalation) into the posts themselves. (Maybe I could support a comment system to host all these old comments? Probably not worth it, but then putting all the comments in the posts themselves feels rather nasty…)
  • Create a default page for when an article is not found and make it a search page with a “semi-intelligent” default search in place…
  • Publish the kinosearch plugin and corresponding indexer script;
  • Sift through all the articles and change the following items:
    • Turn all the HTML-like links into Markdown-like ones;
    • Find out all the links to earlier articles and change them to reflect the new location;
  • Tag all the entries and turn on all the tag-goodies;
  • Create links to the “previous” and “next” entries on the individual post pages;
