This page aggregates content that I’m producing on other sites.
Because it depends almost entirely on those external websites to be displayed, there may occasional problems with it.

Syndicating this site

[meta ]

This site provides several syndication feeds that you may wish to use.

At the present I provide ATOM, RSS 2.0 and RSS 0.91 feeds and each format is made explicit in the links below. You should preferably try to use them by that order (ATOM or, failing that, RSS 2.0 or, failing that, RSS 0.91),

About me

[meta ]

A representation of me

Hello, my name is Nuno and I’m a computer (and Internet) geek, systems architect, occasional programmer and all-around technology enthusiast.

I program mainly in Perl and my strongest involvement with the Perl community materializes in my being a member of the Lisbon Perl Mongers, founding member of the (now defunct) Cascais Perl Mongers and former vice-president of the Portuguese Perl Programmers Association - APPP, of which I was also a founding member.
Some metadata about me and my web presence is encoded in my FoaF file.
If you want to send me some encrypted data you can do so by using pgp. You will find my public key here (or in any number of the public Keyservers out there).

Besides the all the web and technology related stuff I also like to do many other things in real life such as reading, (amateur) photography, drinking tea, surfing, skiing, lazying around in front of a roaring fireplace in cold winter days, listening to (almost all kinds of) music, …

My two greatest passions are, without a doubt, music and traveling.

About NunoNunes.org

[meta ]

Hi!

My name is Nuno Nunes and this (as the name implies) is my personal website.

As such the content of the whole site is provided under the following DISCLAIMER:

This site is strictly personal and has no affiliation whatsoever with any
of my former, current of future employers. Everything and anything I write
or provide in this site is either mine to give away, in the public domain,
or it is presented with permission from the author.

If there is anything in here that you find violates these statements, I’d very much like to hear about it, so please drop me a line.

Anyway, in here I put up everything I feel like sharing or things I want to have available over the Internet for my own usage.

Feel free to poke around and come back if you like what you see, but please don’t use my pictures without asking me. If you do ask I’ll probably let you use them, but if you use them without permission and I find out about it, I’ll be really annoyed and do whatever I can to stop you from using them. I’m not a professional (or even a good) photographer but I do like to keep track of what my work is used for.

You may also like to go over the links to my old sites.

This site is (and probably always will be) a work in progress. If you are into that sort of thing you can check out the list of things to do.

Technical details (a.k.a. the geeky bit)

This site is server by an Apache 2 server with most of it being dynamically by Blosxom.

The parts that aren’t under Blosxom’s control are basically static files being served straight up by the web server.

Apache 2 is needed because of all the redirect magic going on under the hood. That magic allows me to not only mix static content with Blosxom as a generating engine for everything else —without having to essentially rewrite Blosxom— but also to be able to support old links from my older websites (from a time when I didn’t know about cool URIs —the ones that “never ever change”).

My old sites

[meta ]

For quite some time my web presence was comprised of a variety of sites, each on it’s own sub-domain of nunonunes.org. Later on I decided that a better approach would be to aggregate everything under one single domain, on a sigle site, and the present site was the result of that effort.

The transition, however, is still not completely over and so if you wish to visit any of my old sites you can do so by following the links below.

As I convert each of the old sites to this one I will start redirecting to the corresponding sections here, so in the end all these links will end up guiding you to this very site, on different sections. When that day comes I’ll delete this node (this is assuming I remember to do so, if everything redirects here and this page is still up you could consider giving me a shout and warning me about it).

As of now I have no idea how long this transitional period will take.

So the old sites/pages are the following:

To-Dos on this site

[meta ]

Even after I’ve managed to port my sites over to Blosxom and I was pleased enough with the result to launch it to the public, I still couldn’t really say that everything was up to par as far as what I wanted to do with this site.

This page presents a list of things I still need to work on and is my personal to-do list for the nunonunes.org site.

I fully expect that this list will never be over, but it’s nice to have a place to go over and see what I can work on next when the spare time comes…

So, here is the list:

  • Finish up and publish the Technorati plugin (check the tags plugin for the features I need and write new one if necessary…);
  • Create photolog section (make the weblog/photography section be it?);
  • Fix the RSS 2.0 feed generating plugin (“enclosures”) and make it behave appropriately with post dates that are not UTC (as is the case on my site!);
  • Implement simple authentication and authorization mechanism at the level of individual nodes (and possibly whole [sub-]sections);
  • Check the weblog entries from 2002 (and early 2003) for formating —many will have become one huge string of text with all the conversions they already went through;
  • Install (and hack on) the lastmodified plugin with support for RSS feeds (see Heckers entry on the subject);
  • Create a default page for when an article is not found and make it a search page with a “semi-intelligent” default search in place…
  • Sift through all the articles and change the following items:
    • Turn all the HTML-like links into Markdown-like ones;
    • Find out all the links to earlier articles and change them to reflect the new location;
  • Get the current page’s title in the HTML HEAD’s “TITLE” element. For a given article it should be easy to get the relevant title, for “magical” URLs (date/category) it should be derived from the URL itself. Making the HEAD template a dynamic entity is what the major challenge will be.
