Bom trabalho!

RSS reader for Palm

I’ve been griping for too long about not having a RSS reader for the Palm.
Well, the wait is over!

Here is Hand/RSS for Palm OS which can do useful things like using whatever means it has to get the feeds (bluetooth modem, wired modem, wifi) or get them at sync time via hotsync conduits (Windoze or Mac OS X).

I’ve installed it and played around for a little while and it looks really good.

Going up…

This is just too cool not to mention, it seems that people finally stopped laughing at the idea of the space elevator and are really looking into getting it built.
Read it in Space Elevator: High Hopes, Lofty Goals.

Finally wireless

Boy, is it difficult to get apple hardware!
Finally, exactly one month after the arrival of the iBook, I got the portuguese keyboard (which is somewhat brain-dead, by the way) and the airport card.
This is somewhat ridiculous, making it so hard for people to get the hardware that they want to buy but hey, from what I’ve seen this seems to be the apple way so I’d better get used to it…

The portuguese keyboard has a very amusing feature: all the keys which should have three symbols -the third being activated by pressing alt+key- don’t have the third symbol painted on it.
So if you try to find something somewhat useful like oh say “@”, you will not find it anywhere on the keyboard!
Yes, that’ right it is right where it should be, alt+2, but you have to know it, and so does “£” for example.
And for even funnier examples, you also don’t have “[“, “]”, “{” and “}” on the keyboard.
Is this funny or what? Or maybe just insanely stupid? I vote for the later!

The airport, of course, totally rocks! :-)

(via A Cafeteira).

The Gentle Art of Japanese Bathing.

Syndigator sailing along

Another release with some new features.
Bruno has come from his vacation and has been busy getting some new features in Syndigator.
Also he is quite advanced in the Gtk2 port of it so expect another release soon enough with Gtk2 support but as yet without Gtk-Html support as it is not yet ported to Perl.
I have been on vacation also and didn’t do a thing about the cocoa port so it is something I will do, only I don’t know when… :)

RSS in Mac OS X

Well, as I’ve said before I’m a real RSS addict.
The way it makes my news gathering easier can never be overstated.

But I have a problem right now: in Linux I was (happily) using Syndigator for all my RSS reading needs but after changing to the Mac platform I can no longer use it.
Yes, I contemplated installing Gnome on the Mac and just using it anyway, but after I tried and failed miserably to install perl-Gtk I thought it just wasn’t worth the effort.
Eventually I’m going to do a Cocoa GUI for Syndigator but until then (and it will take a while, specially since Camelbones is kind of stale) I have to get my fix of news in some other way.

I tried NetNewsWire light which comes pre-installed on my iBook but it just didn’t quite make it and then a friend of mine told me about Shrook.
Well, Shrook is by far the best news reader I’ve seen so far for the Mac. It has some of the features I liked about in Syndigator (like fine control over each individual feeds preferences) but it still lacks some of the more important features that I liked in Syndigator (like the ability to store an individual article indefinitely).
Granted it can be argued that this shouldn’t be done in the aggregator in the first place but than what I want is not an aggregator, but something a bit more… flexible.
So I’m sticking with Shrook for now but I’m always on the lookout for alternatives and Syndigator will come to the Mac… Only I don’t know when! :-)

Hum… This looks like a good reason to buy an iPod…

Just look at the September 01, 2003 entry on the Journal of furn.

This guy is my hero! :-)

Of course, I don’t even know if I can get a speedo waterproof radio and I just don’t know if I’d have the guts to get an iPod in the water, but still, the idea does have a lot of appeal.

Best of both worlds, he?
